Between-Case Turnover (20-30 min)
- Remove all soiled linens and waste.
- Damp mop OR floor with EPA List N disinfectant.
- Wipe all horizontal surfaces including surgical lights, booms, and monitors.
- Change patient linens.
- Restock supplies.
End-of-Day Terminal Clean
- All furniture and equipment moved; floors mopped wall-to-wall.
- Walls damp-wiped up to 6 feet.
- Ventilation grilles HEPA-vacuumed and wiped.
- All surgical lights disassembled and cleaned.
- Case carts fully cleaned.
- Sterile processing surfaces terminally cleaned.
- Compliance log signed by cleaning lead and OR charge nurse.
Weekly and Monthly
Weekly: OR ceilings cleaned, HVAC returns inspected, storage rooms deep-cleaned. Monthly: full envelope inspection, sterile core deep clean, biohazard route audit.
Documentation
Every clean must be logged with date, time, cleaner name, chemicals used, and any observed deviations. CMS surveyors will request 90 days of logs during inspection.
