A single unwiped cable tray in a 500-rack room can hold pounds of dust. When a cage is worked on and trays are jostled, this dust cascades onto racks — driving particulate counts above ISO 14644 Class 8 thresholds within hours.
The Cleaning Protocol
- HEPA-vacuum tops and interiors of all cable trays.
- Damp-wipe with lint-free, ISO-appropriate wipes.
- Inspect for damaged cable jackets or improper bundling.
- Wipe all suspension hardware.
- Document with particle count readings before and after.
Frequency
Annual minimum for occupied data halls. Semi-annual for high-density (>10kW/rack) environments. Immediately before and after any major cabling project.
