Modern veterinary surgical suites — orthopedic, soft tissue, dental — operate at standards approaching human outpatient surgery centers. Cleaning between procedures and at end of day protects patients, staff, and the facility's AAHA accreditation.
Between-Procedure Turnover
- Remove all instruments to reprocessing area (sterile staff handles).
- Remove drapes, sponges, and single-use items to appropriate waste streams.
- Wipe surgical table and Mayo stand with veterinary-grade disinfectant.
- Wipe overhead light handles and monitor screens.
- Damp mop floor around table with disinfectant.
- Restock drapes, gowns, and supplies.
- Document turnover time and personnel.
Terminal Clean (End of Day)
Full disinfection of every horizontal and high-touch surface. Wipe walls to 6 feet. Damp mop entire floor with parvocidal disinfectant. Sanitize sinks, faucets, and scrub area. High dust vents weekly.
Chemistry
Accelerated hydrogen peroxide or potassium peroxymonosulfate provide broad-spectrum activity including parvo. Standard quats are insufficient for surgical suites in veterinary settings.
