ISO 14644 addresses cleanliness classification for controlled environments and provides a useful vocabulary for particulate targets and verification in a data hall.

ISO requirements apply to a project only when the owner, the contract, or the site specification adopts them. They are not automatically in force simply because a facility is a data center.

ICRA is a healthcare-oriented framework built around infection control during construction and renovation. Its control concepts — containment, barriers, traffic routing, and staged verification — can inform construction and renovation work inside a data center.

Applying those concepts does not make a data center project ICRA-compliant, and it does not make a crew or a facility “ICRA-certified.” The framework is healthcare-specific and certification is a separate matter entirely.

Alignment is not automatic certification. The governing documents remain the facility's own MOP and SOP, manufacturer requirements, and whatever standards the contract explicitly adopts.

What ASHRAE TC 9.9 covers

ASHRAE Technical Committee 9.9 publishes the industry-standard guidance for thermal, humidity, and gaseous/particulate contamination in mission-critical facilities. The 4th edition of Thermal Guidelines for Data Processing Environments (2021) defines both the 'recommended' and broader 'allowable' operating envelopes. Cleaning practices that push temperature, humidity, or particulate outside these envelopes create risk — even briefly.

How ISO and ICRA concepts fit alongside ASHRAE

ISO 14644 gives a shared vocabulary for controlled-environment cleanliness, but its requirements apply to a project only when the owner, the contract, or the site specification adopts them. ICRA is a healthcare-oriented framework for infection control during construction and renovation; its containment, barrier, and verification concepts can usefully inform construction and renovation work inside a data center.

How our cleaning respects the envelope

  • Coordinate tile lifts to keep static pressure within CRAC setpoint
  • Never introduce water sources that raise RH above 60%
  • Use low-VOC, silica-free chemistry that will not shift G1 gaseous rating
  • Bring only ISO-compatible packaging into the white space
  • Verify particulate readings against Class 8 target before sign-off
Below 40% RH is an ESD danger zone

Do you provide ASHRAE-aligned documentation?

What if our facility runs outside the recommended envelope?

Many hyperscale and edge sites intentionally operate in the allowable range for efficiency. Our protocols scale up (more frequent HEPA vacuuming, stricter gowning) when envelopes are widened.

Can cleaning trigger an environmental alarm?

Only if sequencing is poor. Proper tile-lift cadence and moisture control prevent temp, humidity, and pressure alarms.
